The Colors of the Rainbow
by Dorothea
The daring combination of Orange, Pink & Red
I used to be a strictly black and white girl, both in dress and décor, but over the years color has crept into my life, and I now embrace every color of the rainbow. The master of the exiting pink & orange color combination was Yves Saint Laurent, just look how that works in this beautiful YSL Rive Gauche creation from 1984 (see “create the look for less” below):

At the first chateau I restored in Normandy, I used all colors to create warmth and ambiance. Chateaus are often forbidding and cold…I always had candles burning and whatever the weather you arrived in (often cold and rainy), once you stepped into this hall you felt welcome and relaxed.

Orange and red tones complement each other…
I have a great admiration for Carolyne Roehm, one of America’s foremost trendsetters in fashion, elegance, and taste making.

By the way, “the colors of the rainbow” are a line in one of my favorite songs: “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong.

Thank you for reminding me of a red skirt and orange wool-coat in my own wardrobe I could perfectly combine on this sunny winterday in Amsterdam. Color with the idealistic ideas YSL had: real Flower Power!
